Export manufacturing
Products serving global customers where labor, production capability, zone infrastructure and trade logistics matter.
Industries & Who We Serve
VARELAN works across selected manufacturing, industrial, infrastructure and renewable-energy themes where Bangladesh can present meaningful opportunity—and where disciplined execution matters.
Investment themes
Different sectors can share the same core question: can Bangladesh improve the investor’s economics, resilience, growth or project opportunity?
VARELAN’s work is relevant where a foreign company or capital provider needs to assess market fit, operating economics, industrial location, regulatory pathway, partner needs or local execution.
Within manufacturing, the strongest fit is often in sectors where labor, assembly, export capability or supply-chain diversification can matter. In energy and infrastructure, the thesis is driven more by project need, site, counterparties, regulation and bankability.
We do not imply equal expertise or attractiveness across every industry. Each mandate begins by testing whether Bangladesh and VARELAN are relevant to the specific decision.
Public sector signal
The 2025 public FDI Heatmap identified 19 priority sectors, including immediate targets such as core apparel, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, IT-enabled services, advanced textiles and renewable energy.
Other categories included automotive parts, footwear, light engineering and leather for faster entry; logistics and electronics/assembly for more customized support; and longer-horizon sectors such as EV batteries, medical devices, technical textiles, semiconductors and plastics.
That framework is a government investment-promotion tool—not VARELAN’s investment recommendation. It is useful because it shows where public policy is focusing attention while company-specific feasibility still determines whether a sector fits a particular investor.
Core themes
Products serving global customers where labor, production capability, zone infrastructure and trade logistics matter.
Companies adding a second or additional production geography as part of a resilience or China+1 strategy.
Businesses evaluating Bangladesh as a sizeable end market, local production base or combined domestic/export platform.
Investors assessing assets that support manufacturing, warehousing, transport and broader industrial growth.
Developers, investors and strategic partners evaluating project-specific power and renewable-energy opportunities.
Companies seeking local operating, development or investment relationships where capabilities and governance must be carefully assessed.
Sector lenses
Deep export ecosystem; new investors still need product-level productivity, compliance and logistics analysis.
Potential export diversification fit, with materials, supplier depth, compliance and customer requirements central.
Relevant where domestic-market scale or regional production economics fit the brand and route to market.
Potential labor and industrial diversification benefits, subject to component depth and precision capability.
Assembly economics can be relevant, but supplier ecosystem, quality requirements and imported-component logistics matter.
Demand can be tied to domestic consumption and export manufacturing; resin/input economics and compliance require review.
Selective opportunity where process capability, quality systems, supplier development and customer qualification align.
Domestic demand and agricultural linkages can create theses; cold chain, standards, sourcing and utilities are critical.
Potential only where regulatory, quality, technical and market requirements can be satisfied; specialist diligence is essential.
Infrastructure needs can create opportunity while current logistics constraints shape project economics.
Project-specific solar and other renewable opportunities depend on land, grid, offtake, approvals and capital structure.
Selective transport, industrial and enabling-infrastructure themes require project-level counterparty and risk analysis.
