Capital evidence

FDI recovered in 2025. The composition matters.

Bangladesh Bank reports net FDI inflows of US$1.77 billion in 2025, up 39.36% from 2024. The rebound was driven primarily by reinvested earnings and intra-company loans; equity capital rose only modestly. That is a more useful investor signal than the headline alone.

Market validation

Global companies have already built meaningful businesses in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is not an untested market. International manufacturers, consumer businesses, energy companies and financial institutions have operated here across multiple decades and operating models.

Their presence does not prove Bangladesh is right for every investor. It does demonstrate that serious international businesses can establish, manufacture, invest and operate at meaningful scale.

Consumer manufacturing

Unilever

Operating since 1962; more than 96% of products sold in Bangladesh are manufactured locally.

Food manufacturing

Nestlé

Operates a manufacturing facility in Sreepur, Gazipur, producing multiple global Nestlé brands.

FMCG manufacturing & export

Marico

Three manufacturing units; 99.9% of its Bangladesh portfolio is manufactured locally, with exports to multiple markets.

Energy

Chevron

Operates the Bibiyana, Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar gas fields under production-sharing contracts.

Industrial materials

LafargeHolcim

Reports approximately US$500 million invested in an integrated cement plant and three grinding stations.

International banking

Standard Chartered

More than 120 years of institutional presence in Bangladesh, including predecessor operations.

Independent market examples. Companies shown are independently identified examples of international businesses with publicly documented operations or investment in Bangladesh. Inclusion does not imply any client, advisory, partnership, sponsorship, endorsement or other relationship with VARELAN.

Our Platforms

Two capabilities.
One disciplined standard.

VARELAN combines client-side advisory and principal-side renewable-energy development under one institutional brand—while keeping the roles clear, transparent and commercially distinct.

VARELAN Energy

How VARELAN Helps Foreign Investors

From initial evaluation to controlled execution.

VARELAN helps foreign investors turn a Bangladesh opportunity into a structured management decision and, where the investment case is approved, a coordinated path toward implementation. Engagements can begin with early country screening or with a defined market-entry, manufacturing, industrial, energy or infrastructure mandate.

01 · ADVISORY

FDI & Market Entry

Test market relevance, investment feasibility, operating structure, regulatory considerations and the practical route to establishing a Bangladesh presence.

02 · INDUSTRIAL

Manufacturing & Industrial Investment

Evaluate total operating economics, labor and productivity, suppliers, utilities, logistics, facility requirements and establishment feasibility.

03 · LOCATION

Site, Zone & Location Strategy

Compare EPZs, Economic Zones and independent locations against export orientation, infrastructure, utilities, customs needs and the operating model.

04 · INFRASTRUCTURE

Energy & Infrastructure Advisory

Organize market, project, regulatory, counterparty, grid, offtake and execution questions for investors assessing opportunities from the client side.

05 · DILIGENCE

Risk & Specialist Coordination

Surface material commercial and execution risks and coordinate qualified legal, tax, technical, environmental, financial and other specialist workstreams where required.

06 · EXECUTION

Local Execution Support

Translate an approved decision into sequenced workstreams, responsibilities and dependencies, and support local coordination as the investment moves toward establishment or launch.

How an Engagement Progresses

A disciplined path from question to implementation.

The exact scope depends on the investor and mandate, but the engagement logic remains consistent: define the decision, test the case, design the path, coordinate diligence and advance execution with management visibility on the issues that matter.

01

Frame the decision

Clarify the objective, investment stage, assumptions, constraints, decision criteria and information gaps.

02

Evaluate the case

Assess market attractiveness, operating economics, location, infrastructure, regulation and material risks.

03

Design the pathway

Define the entry, operating, location and implementation options that merit deeper diligence.

04

Coordinate diligence

Integrate relevant specialist, regulatory, technical, financial and local execution workstreams around the management decision.

05

Advance execution

Support the move from approved investment decision toward implementation while tracking dependencies, responsibilities and unresolved issues.

Role clarity matters. The process above describes VARELAN's client-side advisory work. The Renewable-Energy Development & Sponsor Platform is separate and may involve VARELAN participating directly in selected projects. The applicable role is defined before work begins.

Why Bangladesh

A compelling destination for the right investment.

Bangladesh can offer scale, selected manufacturing cost advantages, export-oriented industrial ecosystems and long-term energy and infrastructure opportunity.

It also presents real challenges around productivity, logistics, utilities, regulation, currency and execution. VARELAN helps investors understand both sides of the equation before significant capital is committed.

Risk-aware investing

The investment case is only credible if the downside is visible.

A Bangladesh thesis should explicitly test currency and capital movement, regulation, tax and customs, utilities, logistics, labor and compliance, counterparties, land, and execution capability.

Decision Framework

Start with the question.
Not the sales pitch.

Before capital is committed, VARELAN helps organize the commercial questions that determine whether Bangladesh is the right market, operating base or project environment for a specific opportunity.

01

Is Bangladesh relevant?

Market size, sector fit, cost structure, customer access and strategic rationale.

02

Does the model work?

Company-specific economics, productivity, logistics, infrastructure, regulation and risk.

03

Where should you operate?

EPZ, Economic Zone, independent site or market-entry structure.

04

What must happen next?

Execution workstreams, local coordination, specialists, counterparties and sequencing.

Public Benchmarking

Use data to frame the decision.
Not to oversimplify it.

Public benchmarks can help investors orient quickly. They should be followed by project-specific diligence that reflects productivity, supply chain, location, capital intensity, regulation and risk.

A lower wage is not a complete investment case.

Productivity, inputs, logistics, utilities, working capital, quality, management requirements and location can materially change the outcome.
